Monadhil Daood

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Monadhil Daood is a Director of the Iraq Culture Ministry's Al Kawmi Theatre in Baghdad and one of Iraq’s best known theatre, film and TV actors. He trained at the Baghdad Academy of Fine Arts and the Theatre Academy, St Petersburg, from where he holds a PhD, on the subject of Iraq’s ancient Ta’ziyeh performance tradition.

His work as a stage actor has taken him all over the world, performing at the Tokyo, Washington ‘Arabesque’, Athens and Royal Shakespeare Company Complete Works festivals and at theatres in France (Bouffe du Nord), Italy, UK, USA (New York's BAM) and Scandinavia.

Directing credits include: Al Fetah Mahran (adapter/director, Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts); Herostrate (Best Director, Syria Festival, Damascus); Cannibal (adapter/director, Baghdad and international tour); The Old Police Station (writer/director, Scandinavian tour). Acting credits include: theatre: Joan of Arc; Blood Wedding; Antara, Skull (all Iraq); The Al-Hamlet Summit (Cairo,Tokyo, Bath and London); Richard III – an Arab Tragedy (Stratford-upon-Avon and touring to Kuwait, New York, Washington, Michigan, Paris, Verona, Amsterdam and Damascus). Film includes: Katarat badaa mutasila (Iraq); Hub ala mikyas rikter (Iran). TV includes: Holako; Almotanabi; umar Alkayam; Abu zaed alhilali (all Syria); hada hoe al hub; manawi basha, findok hanon; orkistra; milishiy alshar; Almowatin J; mamlakat alshar; alBasha (all Iraq).
